Liver Fluke - A Summer Problem?
SCOPS is urging farmers to take action against liver fluke early this year. A little effort now could mean significant reduction in losses later in the year. Most of us were taught to think of liver fluke as a problem associated with the autumn and winter months, but the truth is that the wet spell we are currently experiencing in the latter part of May and early June could herald yet another bonanza year for liver fluke in the UK unless we take action NOW.

Urgent Warning - Survival of Sheep Scab Mites
SCOPS wants to confirm that sheep scab mites can survive up to 18 days off sheep and not 'just a couple of days' as suggested in a recent trade press article. Re-infestation is highly likely to occur if sheep are put back into fields, buildings or even handling systems before 18 days has elapsed.

“There are reports of sheep farmers are running into problems such as 'Downer Ewe syndrome' and blindness when using some flukicides. This is because they are not aware of possible side effects if these products are not administered correctly. Oxyclozanide, nitroxynil and closantel must be administered at the correct dose rate (neither under nor over) and where repeated treatments are required the minimum interval indicated on the datasheet must be observed.
