Nematodirus Forecasts 2014
In conjunction with Bristol University, SCOPS willbe building on the success of last years Nematodirus forecasts. The 2013 pilothas helped scientists be more confident that soil temperatures are the mostreliable indicator of time of hatching. Our map will be on a county by countybasis showing expected dates of peak hatching, turning red as the peak arrivesand remaining red until the risk period is deemed over. We will also includesome refinements for individual farmers, such as a delay of 1 week for every100m above the height used for the predictions; warnings that south facingfields will have a hatch much sooner than those that are north facing and alsotaking account of levels of contamination from 2013. We will be on line withthese in early April so plan regular visits to www.scops.org.uk for updates and further information on Nematodirus and the management factors involved in disease
