New wormer monepantel, marketed under the brand name Zolvix, became available on 1st July 2017 in the UK, for use by farmers via SQPs, pharmacists and vets. Independent sheep consultant Lesley Stubbings welcomes the product’s launch but wants to make sure farmers strike the right balance when using it.

Very high risk warning still in place for many areas.
Many areas are now at high risk so look at the risk factors for lambs and decide if you need to act. Some areas are now past peak hatch but colder areas on the farm (for example north facing slopes) may still be a threat so think about each mob of lambs separately when making an assessment.

The warm weather is now having a major impact on the Nematodirus risk with several areas across the southern half of England and Wales now at very high risk. Sheep farmers are urged to look at the risk assessment and act if they have lambs that are at risk.
